Hutch and Starsky are partnered for the first time after Gunther's attempt on Starsky's life, and their harrowing case may not be quite as dark as the places to which it leads them.

The former United States of America has dissolved into numerous countries, many of which are ruled by corporations and consortiums. In some of these independent fiefdoms, slavery is now legal. Initially used as a way to control the criminal population, vulnerable citizens are now being kidnapped, forcibly enslaved, sent to slave training facilities in Nevada, and later sold to the highest bidder in a demanding market.
Bay City, the capital of Southern California, is run by a corrupt corporation. Jack Dunfey, a dangerous mobster, plans to take over the BC government so he can control the West Coast underworld from a position of authority. Starsky and Hutch are detectives working under B.C.'s private Special Police force. Lovers since the academy, their relationship has been at odds over the last few years. They're still two of the best cops B.C.'s ever had, and they've been trying to nail Dunfey for years without success. When Starsky gets a call from Hutch to meet him at one of Dunfey's warehouses so they can arrest him, he doesn't think twice about going. But Hutch isn't at the warehouse when Starsky gets there. Fearing for his partner's safety, Starsky acts impulsively and makes the biggest mistake of his life. Or was his mistake in trusting Hutch in the first place?
Dark Side of the Moon is a complex love story with a four pieces of color art by Suzan Lovett and Flamingo. This slash alternate-universe novel also depicts non-consensual sex, BDSM, and graphic violence. It is not related to Dawn's Bound to the Law universe.

Archivist's Note: The year 2004 afforded S&H fans some unexpected bonuses with the release of the Starsky & Hutch movie starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. The film caused a resurgence of interest in the TV show itself, and Paul and David were both in sudden demand for TV interviews and other guest appearances. They attended, with a good deal of fanfare, the LA and the London premieres of the film.
In LA, a long-time fan and friend to many of us in the SH community had a special opportunity to interact with Paul and David. She's written extensively of her experience and posted her story to most of the lists. But Internet life is brief, and her story is a delight. I wanted it to have a longer life. Since Carol was planning to attend SHareCon 2004, I published her wonderful retelling of what it was like to meet Paul and David on the red carpet in LA in the con zine. Many thanks to Carol for her willingness to share the joy.

It was supposed to be just a stupid little game of hide and seek.

He’s nearly within my grasp. A prize that has alluded me for years. I can almost reach out and snuff his breath like the flame of a candle. Squeeze the heart that hasn’t known when to quit. And I can do it all with his partner right here watching.
"Then Starsky saw Hutch hip deep in the lake, and confronting his worst fears. He saw himself surface and begin to wade towards Hutch. It was like watching a movie of their lives. And yet it seemed Starsky was destined to be there and see them together, to see Hutch believing that the Other was Starsky."

Hutch shrugged, refocusing his now embarrassing leer on Starsky's knees. Is that all I want from him? A quick tumble... a slap and tickle and then "I'll call you" as I race on to the next one.
The answer came from deep within, with a rightness that immediately eased his fears. "I never slept with a woman I didn't care for." Well, that was a lie; but whatever else he did or was, he cared for Starsky. Why he cared for him was the one thing in his life he had learned not to question.
